New Art: Spider-Man!

Posted - 14 November, 2012
Spider-Man

Here is a new piece drawn by me and colored by my pal Zach Zellars.  The piece was adapted from a card I drew for the forthcoming Marvel Bronze Age trading card set from Rittenhouse Archives.  This is part of a developmental collaboration to help Zach hone his coloring skills, and I think he’s doing a fine job so far.  Hopefully you’ll be able to see him out there on tour with pieces like this early next year.  Thanks for looking!

New Art: Pepper Potts

Posted - 23 October, 2012
Pepper_Potts

Inspired by a conversation that I had with an attendee at a show, this portrait of Pepper Potts was an expression of my antagonism towards certain kinds of thinking. I’m not sure why people who attend a show sometimes will ask an artist: “Why don’t you draw *this*”, followed by some mumbo-jumbo that they want to see. Artists are all different. We all have our own styles and our own preferred subject matter. There’s nothing wrong with that. Do these same people walk into a convenience store looking for art and complain if they don’t find it? If you want a certain kind of art, do some research on where to find it and go buy some. Sorry, but I can’t draw everything that everyone wants.

Here is my first approved Artist’s Proof card from the recent Marvel Universe set from Rittenhouse archives. For those of you not familiar with the trading card collectors scene, an artist’s proof card is an officially licensed card sent to me by the company and approved by Marvel Comcis themselves before it is sold. These are the rarest items on the trading card market, and only a few are drawn by each artist per set that they do. This one was commissioned by a great client, and I wanted to make it my very best, so I did. Enjoy! More to come soon.

New Art: Spiderman

Posted - 17 February, 2012

Continuing in the theme of creating new art from some of my favorite cards from the upcomming Marvel’s Mightiest Heroes set that I just completed, here is a new Spiderman piece.  I haven’t felt the need to do a new Spiderman in a while because the piece I currently carry (done in collaboration with Josh Flower) is still one of my favorites.   However, I’m hoping to get Josh out on the tour soon, and so if that happens I’ll need one of my own as to not cut into his market.  I’m very happy with the piece.  It will be accompanying me to a town near you very soon!

Thanks for looking!

Artist of the Day feature from Rittenhouse Archives

Hi all!

Great news today!  I was a featured artist over on the Rittenhouse Archives Facebook page.  This was a great blessing for me, and I wholeheartedly thank everyone who went to the page and voiced your support of my work.  Of course, the great thing about being featured is that I can now show these nine cards which they featured to you a bit earlier than usual.  The set is scheduled to be released on March 14th, so look for it wherever it is sold.  This is all together by far the best work I’ve done on a set, and I’m eagerly looking forward to being able to show you more.  Today was a good day for me as an artist, thanks for being a part of it.

Hi All!

As most of you know by now, I participated in the upcomming Marvel’s Greatest Heroes set from Rittenhouse Archives.  For this set, Rittenhouse has set up an “Artist of the Day” feature on their facebook page.  I can’t show any of my cards here until the set releases, but if you’d like to see a page of them before that, you need to head over to the Rittenhouse page and ask them to make me a featured artist.  I would really appreciate your support, and would be thrilled if I was part of this feature.  All you need to do is go here and leave a comment asking for them to put me in the feature, and if enough of you chime in for me, I’m sure they’ll serve you up some killer samples.  This set was by far my best work to date, and I’m really excited for you all to see the cards, so don’t delay!  Thanks everyone!

Avengers Thor Cover

Thor sketch cover

Thor for Adonis Morejon

This Thor drawn on the Avengers #1 variant had the interesting distinction of being the first cover started for the op and the last one finished. I gave it everything I had in appreciation of Adonis Morejon, the guy who made the contract possible. I look forward to doing some more covers for my great friends and supporters over at the CGC boards and across the country. I learned a lot during this run, and as I continue to improve I hope to do more great work for you all.
